MMM Hungry
In line with our mission to support local businesses, we are excited to introduce a brand new feature on the site: Business Spotlights. This section will dive into the stories behind the businesses that make up our community. In this first feature, we are starting with a Millom based business that opened this year — MMM Hungry.
What makes MMM Hungry stand out is its commitment to the local community. I will take this opportunity to highlight the Senior Menu, offering a three course meal for just £7.95. They are clearly dedicated to making a positive impact and this approach will make it an integral part of the Millom area.
I had the pleasure of interviewing the owner, Gavin Padans, to hear the story behind MMM Hungry and its journey so far.
What inspired you to open the cafe this year?
“We opened up MMM Hungry after realizing there wasn't a cafe takeaway that used fresh produce or offered such a wide variety of options.”
What have been some challenges you have faced?
“There were a number of challenges as we had to start almost completely from scratch, working with a blank canvas.”
How has the community responded to the opening of the cafe?
“The local community has been a great support. People have really gotten behind us, both online and in person. It’s been amazing to see so many people—from the young to the older generation—using our cafe.”
What sets MMM Hungry apart from other cafes?
“Our cafe is different because we source all our fresh meat from Southwards of Askam, a local butcher. Plus, we offer a wide range of menus, from breakfast to our senior menu. We even offer fresh food takeaways, available in the shop or online via Foodhub for collection or delivery.”
What is the most rewarding aspect of running MMM Hungry?
“The most rewarding part is the daily chats with our amazing customers, along with the great comments and feedback we’ve received so far.”
What advice would you give someone looking to open a business in Cumbria?
“If you have an idea, don’t just let it stay an idea—go out and make it happen!”
What is something about MMM Hungry that people might not know, but should?
“Our 2-year-old daughter actually chose the name! When she’s hungry, she says, ‘mmm hungry,’ and that’s how the name was born.”
What are your plans for the future?
“We look forward to welcoming both old and new customers as we continue to grow. We’re always exploring new ideas, and we’ve recently added sweet boxes for delivery—perfect for family movie nights! Plus, we’ll be launching a Sunday roast delivery service soon.”
MMM Hungry has received a great deal of support online, which is great to see:
MMM Hungry is definitely one to visit if ever you are in Millom!
